Today’s Inspiration: “Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.” Proverbs 18:12 NIV. We have to guard our hearts daily from pride, anger, and resentment for it gives foothold to the devil. Everyone has pride to deal with because everyone wants to be right and not corrected. Humility is not natural in the Adamic fallen nature because it is through Christ we receive a new nature in His likeness. Without humility there is no spiritual growth, fruitfulness or maturity.

How to develop humility in the Spirit? It is through repentance, forgiveness, and grace. The root of pride is idolatry when we put ourselves higher than others or think we are right all the time. God hates pride because it causes one to be deceived by satan than to be teachable, obedient and submissive. Pride is discerned through a person’s tongue. From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:20-21 The key to break pride is the humility to listen, discern, and be wise.

Prayer: O Lord my God, words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream. May the words of my mouth and mediation of my heart be pleasing unto you. I repent of all carnal pride of life. A contrite heart and a broken spirit you will not despise. Guard my heart O Spirit of the Lord and teach me your everlasting ways. Break every pride and release all anguish so that your Word and peace shall govern my thoughts and emotions, in Jesus Name, Amen.
