27 November 2020 Word by Honorary Pastor Rev Alicia Teo

Today's Inspiration: God's covenant with us is to put His law into our mind and to write them into our hearts. Jeremiah 31:33. We are His chosen ones to go and bear fruit. When storms rage, we will not be afraid as we know we serve a God who watches over us without slumbering. Psalm 121:3.

The Hebrew word for fear is Yir'ah which people tend to take it as a negative expression but our attitude should turn to positive. Isaiah 11:2-3 and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.... Humility and fear of the Lord bring wealth, honor and life. Proverbs 22:4. Fear of the Lord is reverence for God and should not be taken in the context of fear in the negative sense. Yir'ah is reverence for God that reassures His power and control of the world. It gives us respect for His law and keeps us from sins that destroys our relationship and lives. By fearing the Lord you can feel His awesome presence and are filled with awesome worshipful wonder like King David.

To fear the Lord is always to remind us that His watchful eye are ever upon us and to be reassured that whatever storms we are facing, He is still on the throne in control of the whole world. God's emphasis is a positive reverential relationship with Him and not to be terrified by Him.

Many fear God because of fear of punishment. In fact Yir'ah of the Lord is to live in integrity and obedience to Him and in so doing, our daily devotion to Him to meditate upon His word will surely transform us. Proverbs 4:26-27 when we fear the Lord He becomes our strong fortress and defence. It is a fountain of life turning men from the snares of death. Therefore fearing the Lord will definitely transform us as we cannot withstand His presence as in John's encounters in heaven and Moses' encounter with the awesome God at the time of commission. This awesomeness caused one to go on his or her knees awaiting further instructions like King David often do. The fear of the Lord is true wisdom that we need in our daily life watching daily at His gates for His presence and instructions that calm the storms of life and turning our mess to a ministry reconciling lives to God and bringing them to be at peace with Him rather than to terrify them for God is love. God be praised.

Prayer: O Lord grant me the grace to know your Heart more and more that I might serve You more effectively. In Jesus name Amen.
