21 Sept 2020 Word by Honorary Pastor Rev Alicia Teo

Today's Inspiration: If we are careful to obey the Lord our God, His laws and His ways, as He had commanded us, that will be our righteousness. Deuteronomy 6:25. The Lord is one of Divine order. When you enter into another new phase of life, He will show you His ways beyond your expectation that all may be well with you. May you visualise from what your natural eyes cannot perceive and you will see miracles as you navigate your new normal with Him.

God was about to bring Israel into the new normal through Gideon but Gideon was busy pounding the wheat and could not perceive that he has enough power to save Israel out of Midian's hands. God looked at him as a mighty warrior but he looks at the natural circumstances of being from the weakest clan and being the least in the family. Judges 6:12, 14-15.

Even with the assurance from the angel of the Lord, that the Lord be with Him and that he will defeat the Midianites, he had fear. He had the promise, the program and protection like Joshua but unlike Joshua he still needed the angel of the Lord to give him signs after he made a sacrifice to the Lord, knowing full well that a covenant from the Lord requires a sacrifice. V17. When his eyes were opened, he had a lot of fear as he saw the angel face to face unlike Joshua who bowed down in reverence. So, he had to be calmed of his fear and he built an altar to the Lord. V22-24. Despite this, he gave the angel further tests. God had to reduce his men to 300 which caused further fears. The angel then challenged him to spy on the enemy and listen to their conversation in Judges 7:10. When Gideon heard the dream and interpretation in v14, he worshipped God and returned to the camp and get ready to defeat the Midianites. Midianites lost the battle and the land enjoyed peace for 40 years. Judges 8:28. The Israelites wanted him or his son to rule over them and he told them the Lord will rule over them as with the Lord is power beyond recognition but with him is only a pound of flesh which cannot match the power of the Spirit.

How many are like Gideon who needed signs and to this day Jews are classified to always looking for signs and according to Jesus it will not be given as they are futile. Whatever it is, God meets you at the level of faith and even though Gideon's faith was small as a mustard seed, he moved into battle and won. So, act without looking into the natural the level of your faith. God looks at your heart of loving Him and His people. At the end of the day God wants the glory so somehow with His presence, no battle is too big for you to win. Emerge as a valiant warrior for you were created to be more than conquerors. Romans 8:37. Don't let your fear be a stumbling block to your success. Act in faith. His presence will empower you to overcome every battle.

What are you trusting God for? Be at peace with Him and follow His strategies. Gideon had the strategic plan yet needed signs to act in faith. Be like Joshua who placed full trust in Him. But even if you are like Gideon, He will meet you at your faith and you will win the battle. God be praised.

Prayer: Lord, do not let fear rule over me but let Your faith overpowers my natural understanding that I be an overcomer always. Though my faith is small You can move the mountains out of me with Your authority. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
