Today's Inspiration: David prays to God asking Him to cleanse him from his secret faults. Psalm 19:12. Secret faults are those hidden sins that are accidental, unintentional and unseen by the sinner. V13 He also prayed that God protect him from presumptuous sins and let them not have dominion over him so that he shall be blameless and innocent of great transgression.

Presumptuous sins are sins that are premeditated and intentional sins which requires forgiveness whether they are committed by ordinary people, priest or nation leaders and even community leader. Leviticus 5:17.

David knew his human weakness and his powerlessness against this enemy which is a disease of the soul, this foreign invader of all. We need to recognise this sin, failing which we deceive ourselves. 1 John 1:8.

David's sin was presumptuous because his sin against Bathsheba's husband was premeditated. A person who commits presumptuous sins brings reproach to the Lord and carries a grave offence and has no atonement. To Jesus, even if the act was not carried out but premeditated is a sin. Matthew 5:22, 28. Judgement is in the hands of God. Only He can grant mercy. Presumptuous sins are deliberated and committed with full knowledge that they are sins. He knows it's wrong but he suppressed the conscience and committed it even against wise counsel. King Solomon declared that all sins are great sins and some are greater. Transgression is a greatly grievous sin yet some transgressions have deeper shade of blackness. God knows we cannot handle transgression and provided Jesus as a perfect sacrifice for our transgressions, a great disease of the soul that through one perfect sacrifice we are now by His grace forgiven when we repent. 1 John 1:9. Jesus was wounded for our transgressions. Isaiah 53:5. He was bruised for our iniquity and the chastisement of peace was upon Him and by His stripes we can be delivered.

Unless He restrained our hearts, it will violently boil with pride and insolent contempt of the Lord. May God be our defender against temptation and may we have the strength to resist any defiance within us against the Lord. Thank God that our Redeemer lives to deliver us and restore us. God be praised.

Prayer: Lord lead me not to temptation and deliver us from both willful sins and presumptuous sins that I be held blameless in Your sight. Protect us from the lust of pride, the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh. In Jesus name Amen.
