10 Sept 2020 Word by Honorary Pastor Rev Alicia Teo

Today's Inspiration: Whoever sheds man's blood, by his blood shall be shed. For in the image of God He made man. Genesis 9:6. This implies that if we slander a man or gossip about someone, we are marring their image and by marring their image we are marring the image of God for man has been created in the image of God.

Psalm 101:5. God will not endure a haughty look and a proud heart nor slander. If we secretly slander someone then God will destroy us. We are accountable to God for such deed. It is also a breach of the ninth commandment. Exodus 20:16.

Jesus also taught that slandering defiles a man as it comes from within. Mark 7:20-23. So, we should exercise caution not to slander nor make it an evil thought. Whatever evil we think of a man, we have marred His creation as man was beautifully and wonderfully made by Him.

We are called to be a blessing to others and not a curse to others for He told Abraham that those who bless him, He will bless. He is called to be a blessing to the community. Genesis 12:1-3. Those who would seek good life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from seeking deceit. But instead do good, seek and pursue peace for the eyes are of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears open to their prayers. 1 Peter 3:10-12. He further advised us to have a good conscience even though we are slandered and defamed, so that those who see our good conduct maybe put to shame. V17 it is better and the will of God to suffer for doing good than to do evil. We are no longer debtors to the flesh to live according to the flesh but to our Lord God who paid the price for us all. Romans 8:12. God be praised.

Prayer: Lord watch the door of our lips that we do not mar your image in man for we are now slaves to God in righteousness and have fruit to Holiness and in the end everlasting life. May we not take offence of those who defame us but forgive those who do not understand Your heart as we are not accountable to them for our life but to You and You alone. If there are careless words we speak against others, Lord we ask you for your forgiveness as we come to You today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
